The Keagy/Noble Civil War Blanket
By Waterside Woolen Mill

The Keagy/Noble (K/N) blanket is an original production of America's oldest and operational woolen mill. Much of the antique textile machinery used in making the blanket was in operation during the Civil War period and most pre-date any in commercial use today. The K/N blanket is a reintroduction of the nearly extinct art of operation of the 19th century woolen system.
John Keagy and Joseph Noble operated two mills which made blankets used by the troops in the Civil War, one of which was the Waterside Woolen Mill. These blankets are made using the same sources of wool and the same processing techniques as they did while using the Quartermaster specs of 1851 and extant examples of late Federal blankets.
We would like to strive for a new level in terms of originality and authenticity. Our approach includes the experience of processing wool with period equipment at a period mill which made goods used by the honorable men and women we portray. We recognize and respect efforts by all who strive to relive and relearn through experience the actual making of the products in the original way. There have been surprisingly few changes at the Waterside Woolen Mill since the blankets made there were used by Civil War soldiers.
