M1861 Springfield Contract Musket by E. Robinson, dated 1863

Sub-contracted to a number of private manufacturers, Edward Robinson of New York, NY, produced 30,000 muskets for the U.S. Government. Lock is marked "1863" behind the hammer with eagle over "U.S." and "E. ROBINSON / NEW YORK" in front. Barrel is marked "VP" over eagle head, "1863" and the inspector's mark "H.M.B." Buttplate is stamped "U.S." Three barrel bands all marked with "U". All metal parts, including the barrel and lock, are bright with light peppering around the bolster. Walnut stock showing normal wear, no significant damage to note. Bore is excellent. Musket is 100% mechanically viable.
